CORYS is developing a training simulator for EDF for the PMC line (Fuel Handling) operators at the FA3 power plant.
The simulator will be a replica of the two operator stations, for the reactor and fuel buildings, required for fuel loading/unloading operations during refuelling. The fuel transfer system between the two buildings is also represented.
The simulator will integrate and communicate with the actual PLCs and supervision system for the machine supplied by REEL.
In addition, the sensors installed on the various pieces of equipment in the real installation will be simulated, and computer-generated images will show video of the buildings, the equipment and the handling of the fuel assemblies.
Christian Leo, Power Business Unit Vice President, said:
"Following the PMC simulators for the P4, P'4 and N4 stages of the current fleet, we will be delivering the simulator for the EPR to enable its operators to be trained before the first reload, scheduled for the end of 2025. In addition, the Unreal Engine solution has been chosen to represent the images from the 15 cameras viewed by the operators, which will provide high-fidelity realism for 3D".
The simulator will enable the entire handling team to put themselves in the right situation and practise their movements, communication and coordination between the various players and procedures to optimise the duration of operations during unit outages.
The simulator will be installed at Flamanville as close as possible to the operators in early 2025.
